     Physical Education, Camps & Sport



Students in all class levels access weekly specialist sessions
in Physical Education lessons for 45 minutes per week.

The curriculum includes the following components:

  • Develop and maintain competency in the eleven Fundamental
    Motor Skills and movement patterns.
  • Provide students with activities that use the motor skills and
    movement patterns with and without equipment, that will enable participation in: dance, gymnastics, ball sports, outdoor recreation,
    team sports, individual sports and athletics.
  • Activities that will assist in the development of agility and balance
    through efficient and co-ordinated movement
  • Provide students with opportunity to describe and identify links
    between physical activity and health.
  • Incorporating a range of enjoyable activities geared towards the development of fitness.
  • Developing an understanding and acceptance of appropriate social behaviour in sport including: encouragement of sportsmanship and etiquette, commitment and responsibility, consideration of others,
    co-operation, and initiative when participating in sport.
  • Providing opportunities for students to use basic games tactics and effectively use strategic thinking, working with those both less and
    more skilled than themselves.
  • Develop the understanding of following rules and procedures and
    how this is linked with safe conduct during these games and activities.

House Sports Carnivals
All students in the middle and senior school are allocated a Sporting House. These houses are named after significant people associated with the school during its history.

The houses are:
Carpenter (Green)
Loughnan (Blue)
Ruff (Yellow)
Schultz (White)

The Specialist Physical Education teacher coordinates the 545 House sporting carnivals in the areas of :

Swimming (term 1)
Cross country Running ( term 2)
Athletics ( term 3)


The 545 House sporting carnivals provide the school representatives
to represent the school in the Sale & District sporting carnivals. If successful at this level students may progress to the Wellington
Zone, Gippsland and then at the State Championships.

School Representative Sporting Teams
Each year in term 3 the school participates in a Sale & District Team Sports eisteddfod which involves the school selecting 'winter'
sporting teams to participate in the following sports, via a round
robin competition. The sports are:

Soccer,
Netball,
Football (AFL)
At other times of the year the school also competes in Round Robin Tournaments in the sports of:
Basketball
Cricket
Kanga Cricket

If successful at this level students may also progress to compete against successful school teams at Wellington Zone , Gippsland
and then at the State Championship level.

Swimming Program
The school provides an eight week swimming program for all grades across the school each year. This program operates on a
Wednesday at the Sale heated pool in terms 2,3 &4.

The aim of the 545 swimming program is to teach all students
safety and confidence in the water through instruction in water safety, survival skills, efficient stroke development and
encouragement of participation in water activities for leisure.

The program is based on the R.L.S.S.A. Swim & Survive program.

Camps Program
The school provides a camps program from Year 3 onwards.
The aims of the program are:

  • Provide sequential opportunities for students to experience activities in a range of outdoor settings that will encourage them to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle
  • Provide outdoor opportunities that encourage independence and social interaction.
  • To reinforce and extend classroom learning.
  • To further develop social skills such as co-operation, tolerance, communication, individual and group interaction.
  • To extend students understanding of their physical and cultural environment.
  • To further develop students problem solving skills
  • To provide a program that promotes self-esteem, resourcefulness, independence, leadership and judgement.

The camps program is comprised of:

Year 3 Sleepover one night based at school
Year 4 Coonawarra Camp (3 Days 2 Nights)
Years 5 & 6 * Sovereign Hill Ballarat (4 Days & 3 Nights)
                 *Canberra (5 Days & 4 Nights)

* The senior school students all attend the same camp each year, so these venues alternate each year.

Perceptual Motorskills Program (PMP)
The school provides a Perceptual Motor skills Program for Prep students that will enable the development of gross motor
awareness, visual and perceptual skills for all students in grade
prep. This program is conducted by Prep classroom teachers,
assisted by parent volunteers.

An additional program for grades 1 & 2 may be provided where possible, for students who require extra attention.
