     Languages other than English (LOTE)

Japanese Program

Prep students are introduced the Sale Primary School Languages Other Than English - Japanese program via their prep teachers in the second semester of their Prep Year. This usually will consist of greetings, numbers and a range of Japanese words.

Students in the junior, middle and senior classes access Specialist Languages Other Than English - Japanese classes each week for 45 minutes per week, throughout the school year.

The teaching of a Language Other Than English (L.O.T.E.) enhances greater tolerance, understanding and appreciation of those from different cultural backgrounds. Japanese is the LOTE language taught at '545'.

The program aims to develop skills in speaking, pronunciation, writing, listening, reading and music through fun activities and topics.

Taiko Drumming Band
A major feature of the school's LOTE program is the school's Japanese Taiko Drumming Band. The 20 piece band was formed in 2000, and has become a very popular and membership is highly sought after by senior school students, each year.

The Sale Primary School Taiko drumming band has performed for the Governor General, at major community functions in the Wellington Shire, as well as performing annually at the opening of the Asia Education Convention in Melbourne from 2002-2006.

Issun Booshi
In 2007, the Specialist teaching team worked together to produce a Japanese Musical play "Issun Boshi - The Inch High Samurai". The Middle School students were involved in the production, throughout term 2, and this culminated in a number of daytime and evening performances, for the rest of the School's students, the school community, and for a number of neighbouring schools.
