Sale Primary School has a close association with the RAAF Base East Sale and as such has a large number of students from Defence Force families, ie usually more than 10% of the student population.

The school is fortunate to have a Defence Force Transition Aide, Mrs Linda Wilson, at 545 for two days a week. Linda provides school based support for student and parents from defence families.

Her role includes (but is not limited to) the following:

• Being a contact for new parents of mobile Australian Defence Force children in the school
  
• Assisting the school and parents with enrolment procedures, and supporting the students transition into their new school environment.
• Introducing Australian Defence Force parents and children to the
  school and its facilities
  
• Coordinating appropriate welcoming and farewelling activities for ADF children involving the school community
  
• Developing processes within the school to support the ongoing needs
  of mobile children during the three year life of the DFTA program
  
• Organising materials for parents/carers of mobile children in relation
  to the school and broader educational issues
  
• Monitoring day to day children's/students' personal issues, such as
  social connections
  
• Developing links with the Regional Education Liaison Officer (REDLO)
  in the local area and acting as a referral point for cases requiring
  specialist educational advice.
  
• Developing links with the R.A.A.F Base East Sale, especially the Base Services that ADF families can access, if required.
  
• Supporting individual children's needs as required
  
• Maintaining contact with Australian Defence Force families who
  are enrolled in the school
  
• Contributing items of interest to mobile families in the school newsletter
  
• Providing opportunities for Australian Defence Force families to meet
  other Australian Defence Force families
  
• Enhancing the relationship between the school and their Defence community.
