The
Sale Primary School No 545 endeavours to create a nurturing, caring
learning environment for our students, which seeks to foster a
pride and joy in school and in life long learning, and to prepare
students as well rounded and valuable contributors to the community
in which they live.
'545'
supports the principle that children learn best when:
- They
are actively involved in their learning and it fulfils their needs,
purposes and interests;
- There
is clear modelling and application;
- They
and others believe they can learn;
- They
take responsibility for their own learning;
- They
receive positive responses to their attempts;
-
They have a positive self image;
They
can reflect on their own thinking processes.
The Sale Primary School curriculum is provided through both
classroom
and specialist teaching programs. This curriculum is developed,
at the school level, around curriculum guidelines known as the
Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS).
A summary of the VELS structure
can be obtained by clicking here.
This curriculum structure provides for the curriculum in the
'traditional' areas of English, Mathematics, (Visual
Arts and Music),
Health and Physical Education, Science,
Humanities (Social Studies), Languages Other Than English L.OT.E.
(Japanese) but also gives
significant formal direction for schools to include and assess
in the
areas of Information & Communication Technology (ICT), Design,
Creativity and Technology, Civics and Citizenship, Personal
Learning
and Interpersonal Development.
